Stalin's Peak
drawing, photo, collection of historical postcards, documentary video
In 1949, Slovak citizens donated the greatest thing of the country to dictator Stalin for his false 70th birthday - the Gerlachov Peak, which was renamed Stalin's Peak.
(How could anyone donate something that no one owns?)
The drawing is a transcript of a historical plaque that was placed at the peak. For the drawing I used a specific material - mud from the foot of the mountain.
The collection of historical postcards is a curious document of the period of Stalin's Peak (1949-1959). The placement of two postcards (Stalin's Peak - winter, summer) on the chest with a gesture of embrace is a symbolic ambivalent "welcoming" winners - liberators - occupiers.
Documentary film from 1950 is a property of Slovak Film Institute SFU.
